You will hear and see a lot of negative feedback about Junior College Football, but trust me when I say get ready because you will deal with most of the same issues at any School. In this episode of the Life and Football podcast host Mike Figgers gives his personal experience in Junior College Football and the Struggles players will face in JUCO football day to day life. He played at Ellsworth Community College located in Iowa Falls, Iowa. This is the perfect episode for any Athlete about to start their College Journey. Junior College Football in the Med West is a big deal and gives kids a second chance at living out their dreams of playing College Football. With the recent success of Last Chance U JUCO Football is getting a lot more attention from HighSchool and Transfer Athletes. For Mike this was an excellent opportunity for him as an athlete coming from Florida to Iowa. This was also a time of uncertainty as he began his College journey in a state he’s never been in and had never been that far away from home. The point of JUCO ball is to get your grades right, graduate, make the most of the opportunity, and move on to your next destination.
You see your teammates will be your family away from home. You share an immediate connection and bond with them. If you’re feeling sad and tired, guess what? So are they! You share your wins, loses, pains, and success with them. Don’t take these relationships for granted.
As a college Football player granted, there will be times when you oversleep, forget to read for your class or skip a meal because you’re so busy. And that’s fine. Just don’t let your mistakes turn into bad habits. Learn from them, and do better. Practice time management. Treat your life as a full time job, and honor each commitment. While you may enjoy athletic life more, be sure to put in the time and respect for your classes, too. To be successful means more than just playing Football and making your mark in the game. It means following your passions, living purposefully, and enjoying the present moment.
