The SWAC conference has been making headlines with major news this year. One of the most mentioned stories was Jackson State hiring Deion Sanders to become their head football coach. This was news that made a major impact across the College Football landscape. Let’s take a look into the man that made this happen, one of the most impactful and brilliant leaders in College Athletics who is Jackson State’s Vice President and Athletic Director Ashley Robinson. Robinson is one the best Athletic Directors in the Country not just HBCU’s. Robinson is currently the president of the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association for the 2020-21 year; he’s the first African American in the position. The FCS ADA’s mission is to enhance college football’s Division I subdivision. We’ve all heard the phrase” the man with the plan”, this is Ashley Robinson. If I was the president of a University (example any power five or HBCU) my first priority would be to hire Robinson as my Athletic Director ASAP. Robinson has aspirations to return the Tigers to prominence and to grow Jackson State with the best facilities which are already in the works, financially with more donations which have increased already, and getting some of the best coaches in the country. These are some of the same goals Robinson achieved as the Athletic Director for Prairie View A&M University. While at Prairie View Robinson hired power house Football Coach Willie Simmons who is currently the Head Coach at FAMU. Robinson also played a major role in getting a big beautiful stadium at Prairie View and other new facilities that are second to none. Throughout his storied career at PVAMU, he brought numerous facilities upgrades, including Tankersley Field baseball facility, as the multi-year project included the installation of a new high-definition message board, grandstand and press box. A new athletics administration building in the north end zone at Panther Stadium at Blackshear Field, which is a three-story complex serving as the new home for PVAMU Athletics. It features an academic lab, administration and coach’s offices, a weight room, athletic training room and rehab and classrooms for academic support and team meetings. Ashley Robinson has racked up several athletic championships throughout his career. He’s also been instrumental in building academic successes and completing athletic facilities and renovations. Robinson is an HBCU King who is always with the goal of improving the student-athlete experience. When you think Ashley Robinson don’t think prime time, think Big Time!
